REGIONAL REPORT:

ZIMBABWE Project Management Round Up

Zimbabwe

By Henry Mkhwananzi
International Correspondent

Harare, Zimbabwe

Without change we die, through change we develop

It is close to two years now since I have been an International Correspondent for PM World Today. I joined this wonderful team of project managers in February 2010. The compilation of regional reports and breaking news items has been challenging but thanks to the ever enthusiastic and encouraging Managing Editor who has effectively demonstrated to me that projects can indeed be managed through virtual teams. I say so because I have never met him and yet I understand his work ethics as if I have interacted with him personally. Not only is he a good communicator and an effective stakeholder manager, he is an admirable change agent. This is demonstrated by the manner in which he has managed the transition from PMFORUM to PM World Today. I am therefore happy to that I am still a member of this team under the leadership of David Pells.

On the local scene, I have seen the project management profession developing at a significant pace, thanks to the efforts of the team at the Project Management Institute of Zimbabwe (PMIZ). This team really deserves a standing ovation for placing the project management profession at par with other professions in Zimbabwe. Not only did it focus on skills development through its in-house training programs, it complemented those with an aggressive promotion of international certifications like PMP and Prince 2. Within a space of 12 months, the country boasts of at least 12 new Prince 2 Practitioners that were trained in collaboration with PMIZ. Another set of 10 project managers wrote the Prince 2 practitioner exam in December 2011 and are waiting for their exam results.
