FREE FALLING

The steep downward trend of the Romanian economy which turned down on all major indicators is still affecting largely the social and economic life in the country in almost every corner. High hopes displayed in the beginning of 2010 and eyes staring at the Western and U.S economies lately showed that Romania is far from making a way through this global mess.

Strike after strike, bad news after bad news, slowly but steadily the economy is drifting away, driven by day-by-day decisions taken by a Government overwhelmed by so many problems.

With all figures projecting down from month to month, it is hard to make any prediction of how deep and how long the plunging will last.

The construction business continues to suffer in terms of new business opening, new projects and lack of real growing perspective for the entire 2010. So do the adjacent services like consulting and project management for the construction sector.

To exemplify the stray the construction and infrastructure go through is the news that the last major motorway project aimed to link Ploiesti and Brasov Cities was cancelled…

Mr. Florin Gheorghiu, PMP, is an International Correspondent for PMForum and PM World Today in Bucharest, Romania. Florin has added much to its professional accruals when working on large power plant rehabilitation program financed by the International Bank for Reconstruction & Development (IBRD) and the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD), and for Parsons Power (Gilbert Commonwealth), Lahmeyer International and Pennsylvania Power & Light (PP&L) as a project Consultant. Florin is a graduate of the Technical University of Bucharest in Power Engineering and the National School for Political Studies and Administration in Management.
