Project Management Update from Slovenia

Project Management in the universities in Slovenia
Introduction
Slovenia has quite a long tradition in teaching Project Management (PM) in university studies. It started in 1975. In that time the name of this knowledge was still Network Technique and the name of the international association, which was established in 1965, was still Internet.
Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia till 1991 when Slovenia became an independent State, which is today a member of the European Union.
The tradition and the knowledge of PM helped Slovenia and its Project Management Association to organize the IPMA International PM Congress which was held in 1998 in Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia. The congress was also one of the important milestones in the promotion of PM in our country.
In this report we present some data about teaching PM in universities in Slovenia at those faculties which have had the biggest tradition in teaching PM.
The data in this article are approximate only. Namely, the university system in Slovenia from 1970 till today has been changing many times. Thirty years ago we had one university only (University Ljubljana was established in 1919). Today in Slovenia there are four Universities, many study programmes have been founded, the titles of subjects have been changed, many changes were made two years ago by Bologna system, etc...

Andrej Skarabot
Andrej Skarabot , PhD, is an international correspondent for PMForum and PM World Today in Slovenia. He has a diploma in Chemical Engineering (1963) from Ljubljana University in Slovenia and a Masters of Science (M.Sc.) in Business Administration (1975) and Ph.D. in Business Administration (1985) from Zagreb University in Croatia . Dr. Skarabot was a professor at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia from 1980, retiring in 2007. During 1989 – 2006, he was also a partner in d.o.o., a management consulting firm based in Ljubljana . Beginning in 1965, Andrej was the first to write articles and teach seminars about network analysis and project management. Since then, he has extensive experience in the construction, pharmaceutical, electro, mechanical engineering and governmental sectors. He is currently President and First Assessor of the Slovenian Certification Body (SloCert) for the International Project Management Association ( IPMA ) and an assessor for IPMA 's international awards. Dr. Skarabot has taught more than 300 seminars and published over 190 articles and papers in the management field.
