Indian IT companies looking inward
Finally, it looks like Indian companies have started to look inwards in a big way. Not long ago it was not uncommon for many Indian IT companies to work exclusively for clients in the US or Europe .
Hit by the slump in the private sector, Indian IT firms are betting big on the government expenditure. This follows the government’s plan to spend more on IT in defence and homeland security, education, public support systems and general administration. The Indian IT vendors expect their revenues from the government projects to go up dramatically in the next two years. The government’s IT spend is estimated to be around $4 billion in 2010-11. It was $580 million in 2007-08. Many companies have shown interest in seeking government projects here like Rolta India, Wipro , HCL Technologies, Mastek and smaller firms like Bartronics.
Areas which are getting attention include technology upgradation and advancement in homeland security, logistics solutions and transportation. Apart from this general overall growth, spending is expected to occur for projects due to IT adoption and increased budgetary spending.
Clean and green projects
The focus on clean and green projects continues as a means to keep up the growth and also effect sustainability in the long run .
The Indian state of Haryana has announced that the two cities of Faridabad and Gurgoan will be converted to green/solar cities in the next 5 years. This is part of a program by the Ministry of new and non-conventional energy which plans to transition 60 cities across India. The master plan for development will set a goal of minimum 10% reduction in the projected total demand of conventional energy at the end of five years, which can be achieved through a combination of energy efficiency measures
and enhancing supply from renewable energy sources.
