REGIONAL REPORT

Project Management in Australia

By Brenda Treasure International Correspondent for PMForum & PM World Today Melbourne, Australia

On Saturday 7th February, temperature reached in some areas of Victoria in excess of 47°C (124°F) combined with strong winds brought about what is now known as Black Saturday.  The state of Victoria in southern Australia was hit with hundreds of bush fires during that day. Unfortunately, these fires have proved to be the deadliest in Australian history, with at least 209 deaths reported so far, 1800 homes destroyed, hundreds still in hospitals. The fires mostly appear to have been started by lightning - however a few appear to have been arson, and are under investigation - entire towns being declared crime scenes. A number of fires are still burning, and authorities warn that the death toll will likely rise.

Following that dreadfull day the Project Management Community joined together to act as a single force to respond to the recent Victorian Bushfires.

Representatives from PMI Project Management Institute Victoria, AIMP Australian Institute of Project Mananagement Victoria are working with  Project Aid.
