Several Oil Exploration programs to be initiated in Jordan

Jordan is dependent on imported oil for its own energy needs, which is something that might change hopefully in the next decade, and turn Jordan into an oil exporting country. Jordanian authorities are working with many global companies to increase the number of active petroleum exploration programs in Jordan.

According to the Jordan Times, the local English language daily newspaper, two tenders are already out soliciting bids from international companies for the exploration of “northern highlands” and the “central blocks” regions. Closing dates for these bids is may 31st 2009. Jordan has been building momentum in oil exploration over the past few years. Already, five global companies have already been brought in and are currently exploring for oil in six Jordanian regions.

In addition to the above oil exploration efforts, there is an agreement pending approval with Royal Dutch Shell to explore and extract deep oil shale.
