What to expect in Argentina in 2007
for the Project Management Profession?

During 2006, Argentina totally proved that the bad times of the 2001 economic crisis were in the past: the growth of its economy (8.5 annual rate according to United Nations’ Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean -ECLAC) places the country in the group of Latin American leading countries, behind Venezuela (10%) and Dominican Republic (10%). This year Argentina has registered an 11% annual growth in industry production, led by the textile, metal mechanical and construction industries. This growth has generated a 5.5% increase in job positions. The growth of Argentina during 2006 is undeniable, and it has been translated to an explosion of projects. Will this growth continue during 2007? What to expect for the Project Management Profession in Argentina during 2007?

News from Germany

A Happy New Year from Germany! I have some very good news from Germany. The requests for project managers grow significant due to the increasing number of projects and the understanding of more and more organisations that educated project managers are needed to drive projects successfully. In addition the project management landscape participates on the recurring economy growth in Germany – although many Germans are not aware of this situation in opposite to investors who are already back in the country. Germany is seen as the engine for European business and listening to several organisations the pipeline grows and promises a successful year 2007. Here are some numbers for this prediction.

Aid to sub-Saharan Africa: Perennial Handouts
or a Regional Development Program?

In spite of years of aid to sub-Saharan African countries, there is little progress in many countries in almost every aspect of economic development. Indeed, there is hardly anything to show for the large investments over the years. It becomes logical and necessary to ask whether the perennial and ongoing monetary and physical aid to sub-Saharan Africa constitutes charitable and philanthropic handouts or whether they should be designed to achieve regional development of sub-Saharan Africa.

Romanian Real Estate Projects Soaring
for the Second Year

Viewed from the upper level of the newest skyscraper, Bucharest City looks like a big construction site rather than the heart of economical, social and political life of the country. Everyone could see at a glance numerous cranes moving up and down materials, concrete trucks wandering on the city’s streets or scaffolding rising alongside the building’s wall carrying workers with colored helmets. This is a day-to-day picture one can capture while traveling through the city.

Project Management is Moving Forward in Spain

Miguel de Cervantes, Spanish writer, said: “If you lose your wealth you lose a lot, if lose a friend you lose much more but if you loose your courage you lose everything”.

Project management courage has been applied by project managers in Spain along the year 2006. We had the great opportunity to celebrate the PMI EMEA Congress in Madrid last May and it was a very successful event, we got seven hundred and fifty professionals attending that Congress. Spanish Executives are more and more conscious about the project management need in Spanish organizations. However a long way must be still walked on this field. Many Spanish Executives do not understand well the strategic part of project management.

PMI Global Congress Latin America 2008 –
Why in Colombia?

Rodriguez:
The Bogota chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) has launched a campaign to obtain international support for its idea of hosting the 2008 Global Congress Latin America in Colombia, specifically at Cartagena de Indias. Even though locations for 2008 North America, EMEA and Asia PMI’s global congresses have already being announced, the location for the Latin America global congress is not known yet. Hence, the PMI Santafé de Bogota chapter is making an important effort to get attention to its proposal. Its President, Mr. Germán Bernate, wrote this article as a means to share his ideas for hosting the congress in Cartagena de Indias.

The Project Management profession has different attractions. To begin, all of whom embrace this profession have a great admiration for the systemic work.  Yes, systemic, it means they learn to solve any problem by analyzing it as a whole.

Why is this fundamental sentence mentioned? Because of a simple reason: The Santafé de Bogotá Chapter of the Project Management Institute wants to show to all the international community the excellences of Colombia. Here comes again in our help the concept of systemic: “To belong to the relative or to the totally of a system”. We want to announce to the whole world that Colombia is a country full of joy, progress, and whishes to contribute to the development of our nation and to the whole world.
