Letter to Editor

On the Tribute to John Fondahl and the passing of his student, Antonio Tansingco in The Philippines

24 June 2010

Dear Editor

I read the Memorial Resolution for Prof. John W. Fondahl.

It may be of interest to you to know that Antonio O. Tansingco, Filipino, a former student of Prof. John W. Fondahl in Construction Planning and Scheduling in the graduate school in Civil Engineering at Stanford University in 1969, wrote a book on Precedence Diagramming entitled Effective Planning and Scheduling of Projects. He wrote the first version in 1975 and came out with the latest on July 15, 1995.

He wrote the book to bring the awareness of planning and scheduling to a level that is simple and understandable, so that those who need it could make use of it with or without the use of computers.

He referred to Prof. John W. Fondahl as the pioneer on the subject of Precedence Diagram, a simple Project Management tool for construction people.

Antonio O. Tansingco was a civil engineer, author, an exemplary leader, an officer and gentleman. He passed away ahead of his mentor, on July 1, 2006 at the age of 73.

If you were not provided a copy of the book and you are interested to have one, I can send you.
