On the March PMWT Editorial on Leadership & Motivation

Dear David,

Here is a comment on your fine editorial on the HBR article:

In the HBR article, making progress was the great motivator. Two thoughts on that. My favorite definition of leadership is simply, "helping a group to agree on and commit to an objective." Making good progress is only possible if the team understands and is committed to the objectives.

And in celebrating progress in meeting milestones, it is very effective if the boss of the project manager participates in the celebration. Team members often judge their leader very much on the Project Manager's influence with the boss.
