Letter to the Editor:
On the Subject of the February Editorial – Project Management and Accountability
February 25, 2009
Dear David,
Thank you so much for writing this article. Somehow we should make sure the President’s team reads this or otherwise becomes cognizant of these approaches and the need to insist on this type of accountability with all entities being granted any stimulus money.
Also there should have been more planning in the stimulus bill.
I disagree that that are no earmarks in the bill. Who needs a train from CA to Las Vegas? I read a portion of the explanation of the bill posted at:
http://wsbradio.com/blogs/jamie_dupree/2009/02/read-the-final-stimulus-bill.html
There are some instances in which certain governmental departments are granted a specified amount of money to “be available” until a certain date, and they are to explain how they want to use it. How absurd is that? How could the authors of this bill come up with a dollar amount for this department without even demonstrating any need for this department to have any stimulus money at all? Absolutely no mission! They are to invent one,
I presume.
It is extremely frustrating to US citizens to watch our government continue the old politics game with our money as if there were a limitless supply – let’s just print some more! Even China doesn’t have limitless resources and will not want to continue to fund bad US investments.
I believe if we are not wise with this economic recovery effort, the bottom will fall out and this “crisis” we are now in will seem like nothing when the real catastrophe hits.
Please publicize this message as much as possible.
