Richard Pharro provides PRINCE2 and MSP update at International Project & Program Management Symposium in Tokyo Reported by PMForum from Tokyo Richard Pharro, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The APM Group Limited based in the UK, delivered a major first day presentation at the International Project & Program Management Symposium Tokyo 2008 in Tokyo, Japan on Monday, March 10. The two day conference was held at Tower Hall, Funabori in Tokyo. ![]() Richard Pharro is CEO of The APM Group Ltd, the accreditation body for the UK Office of Government Commerce’s (OGC’s) Best Practice Portfolio, which includes PRINCE2 and MSP. He trained as a civil engineer and worked on projects in the UK and the Middle East, and was part of the Programme Management team responsible for the re-development of the London Docklands in the 1980s. In the past, he has been a member of the board of delegates for the International Project Management Association (IPMA) and Vice Chairman of the Association for Project Management (APM) in the UK. With colleagues, he has built APM Group into an international organization with offices on all continents specializing in accreditation and certification. Richards is co-author of the book The Relationship Manager and is a frequent speaker at conferences. The symposium was sponsored by the Project Management Association of Japan. The Program Director and Chairman for the IP&PMS Tokyo 2008 was Dr. Hiroshi Tanaka, president of PMAJ. The national Project Management Association of Japan (PMAJ) was born in 2005 thorough the integration of the Japan Project Management Forum (JPMF – pioneer of Japan’s project management society) and Project Management Professionals Certification Center (PMCC). PMAJ has 3,000 individual and 110 corporate members from all branches of the Japanese industry and governmental agencies. Big Turnout at PMI Dallas Vendor Showcase The PMI Dallas Chapter held its annual Project Management Vendor Showcase on 13 March 2008 in Addison, Texas. The 2008 Vendor Showcase was held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza North Dallas-Addison Hotel, site of the chapter’s monthly dinner meetings. The event was free to pre-registered PMI Dallas Chapter members and included plenty of food and entertainment. Over 30 companies participated, exhibiting their project management-related products and services at tables and booths spread around the hotel ballroom. With approximately 600 attendees, the room was packed with people. ![]() According to PMI Dallas Chapter President Dwaraka Iyengar, (pictured with Chapter VP Communications Jennifer Carlisle), “It was a great turnout, with more attendees and vendors than last year. This is one of our most popular events, with attendance and food free or minimal cost. We’ve already received a lot of positive feedback!” Jennifer added, “This is a fun event, combining education about project management solutions in the market with information, networking and lots of door prizes. We hope everyone has a good time.”
![]() Most of the 30+ vendors provided a door prize, as did the PMI Dallas Chapter. So beginning around 7:30 p.m. drawings were held at each vendor table, with two or three Dallas Chapter leaders coordinating the drawings. Even this reporter was fortunate enough to win something.

The next big event for the PMI Dallas Chapter is the chapter’s 2008 Professional Development Day – The Power of Project Management, a one-day project management symposium scheduled for April 12, 2008.

Final Report from PMI Dallas 2008 Vendor Showcase The PMI Dallas Chapter has announced final results from its annual Project Management Vendor Showcase that was held on 13 March 2008 at the Crowne Plaza North Dallas-Addison Hotel, in Addison, Texas, site of the chapter’s monthly dinner meetings. The event was free to PMI Dallas Chapter members and included plenty of food and entertainment.. ![]() According to Dwaraka Iyengar (shown in photo with John Baley, immediate past chapter president and current PMI Component Mentor for Region 6), “We had 33 vendors and 625 registered attendees. It was a little better turnout than last year, and continues the trend of making this one of our biggest events.” John Baley noted, “The PMI Dallas Chapter’s annual vendor showcase is the biggest one in Region 6. The Dallas chapter is also the biggest PMI chapter in this region; it shows leadership in a number of areas. Project Finance to be featured topic at MegaProjetos 2008 International Symposium in Sao Paulo Project Finance will be one of the featured topics at the April MegaProjetos 2008 Symposium in Sao Paulo. Two leading Brazilian authorities on project finance, José Virgílio Enei and Alberto Faro, will present key factors related to the financing of major projects.
