Mega Projects Conference announced for MegaProjetos 2008 International Seminar and Exhibition has been announced for São Paulo, Brazil in April 2008. The conference will feature keynote presentations by leading authorities and experts on the construction and management of mega projects around the world. Lessons from such mega projects as Boston’s Big Dig and Pan American Games 2007 in Rio will be presented and discussed.
According to conference organizers, a mega-project is a special type of project, generally defined as a very large enterprise that requires an investment of over a billion dollars (frequently several billion). Leading Japanese Strategist to Keynote March PMAJ Symposium in Tokyo The Project Management Association of Japan (PMAJ) has announced an important first keynote speech to be delivered at the “International Project & Program Management Symposium Tokyo 2008 – In pursuit of organizational project management value.” The two-day symposium will be held in Tokyo, Japan during 10-11 March 2008. ![]() Mr. Jitsuro Terashima, Strategist, Executive Managing Officer, Mitsui & Co., Global Strategic Study Institute, Japan – will speak on the “Strategic View of Project Management”. Mr. Jitsuro Terashima, is one of Japan’s top global strategists. He is Managing Director of Mitsui & Company, and CEO and President of the Mitsui Global Strategic Studies Institute. He also serves as Chairman of The Japan Research Institute and Professor at Waseda University's Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies. Mr. Terashima obtained a master’s degree in political science at Waseda University, Tokyo and joined Mitsui & Company, Japan’s leading trading company, in 1973. He has extensive experience in the company’s global operations, and global strategic studies for the company and Japan in general. He was in the United States for 16 years; following a stint at the Brookings Institution, he was Head of Strategic Planning at Mitsui’s New York Office and General Manager of their Washington DC Office. Mr. Terashima has been in his current position at Mitsui since 1999. Mr. Terashima’s speech will be one of five keynotes at the Tokyo symposium, which will also feature presentations and papers by project management experts and leaders from around the world. Mr. Terashima’s speech will be the first keynote on Monday, March 10, at 9:50 a.m. ![]() According to Symposium Project Director Dr. Hiroshi Tanaka, “Mr. Terashima is a well-known strategic thinker and speaker in Japan. PMI Global Congress 2008-EMEA location changed to Malta The Project Management institute (PMI®) has announced that the PMI Global Congress 2008—EMEA (Europe Middle East Africa) will now be held in Malta. According to the PMI website, the location of the May 2008 congress was changed from Marrakech, Morocco to Malta “due to unforeseen circumstances, including some logistical challenges that could not be overcome.” ![]() According to Wikipedia, Malta is a small and densely-populated island nation comprising an archipelago of seven islands in the Mediterranean Sea.
