Call for Papers Extended for 1st UTD PM Symposium in Texas

 

The Call for Papers has been extended to 15 May for the 1st UTD Project Management Symposium, to be held during 6-7 August 2007 in Plano, Texas, USA. The conference is being sponsored by the Graduate Program in Project Management in the School of Management’s Executive Education Center at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), in cooperation with the Dallas Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) and PMForum, Inc. Executives, project management professionals, project managers, researchers and graduate students are invited to submit abstracts for proposed papers and presentations for the August 2007 PM Symposium.

The 2 Day Project Management conference will focus on topics important to organizations, industries and the economy of North Texas. Proposed Tracks include the following:

Track 1 – PM for Nanotechnology & Semiconductor Development
Track 2 – Project, Program & Portfolio Management
Track 3 – Agile Project Management
Track 4 – PM for Medical & Healthcare Projects
Track 5 – Big PM: Management of large technology Projects
Track 6 – Micro PM: Management of smaller projects
Track 7 – The Role of PM for Corporate Governance

Abstract Guidelines

Abstracts should be emailed to jxa051000@utdallas.edu no later than 15 May 2007, with the following information:

  • Title of paper, author and organizational affiliation
  • Abstract of no more than 250 words
  • Summary bio for author or co-authors
  • Preferred track for the paper

Authors will receive a 40% discount and are expected to enroll, attend and present the paper in a formal presentation. Papers shall not have been previously published.

According to Jim Joiner, Director of UTD’s graduate program in project management, “We have now formed a team at UTD for this conference, the facilities are reserved, and we’re starting to line up keynote speakers. This will be a good opportunity to have a positive impact on organizations and industries in North Texas, and to expand the presence and visibility of project management in this area.”

The 2 Day Project Management conference will focus on topics important to organizations, industries and the economy of North Texas. Proposed Tracks include the following:

Both the PMI Dallas Chapter and the UTD’s executive education program in the school of management are registered education providers with the Project Management Institute (PMI®), so a significant number of Professional Development Units (PDUs) will be available for attendees and presenters.

The Symposium will be held at the Plano Center in Plano, Texas. Other Conference Features will include an Opening Ceremony with Keynote Speakers on Monday morning; a Monday evening reception for attendees, speakers and vendors; a Closing Panel of keynote speakers on “The Future of Project Management”; and a vendor exhibition for the entire two days.

UTD’s Project Management Program provides application-oriented education for professionals with significant project, program or general management responsibilities. Established in the Executive Education center in UTD’s School of Management, students have the option of earning a Certificate in Project Management, a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in project management, or a Master of Business Administration degree with project management emphasis.

Call for Abstracts - Center for Business
Practices Seeks Proposals for Presentations
at 2007 PM Summits & Benchmarking Forums

The Center for Business Practices (CBP) is seeking presentation proposals for its 2007 Project management Summits and Benchmarking forums. Presenters will receive free admission and full expenses paid to the event. Proposals are being sought for presentations at the following events:

CBP Summit: Strategy & Projects, June 27-29, Hyatt Regency Scottsdale This CBP Summit will be an opportunity for senior-level portfolio, program, project and strategy management executives to examine and debate the most critical issues their organizations are facing today. Participants will discover cutting-edge best practices and lessons learned in managing strategy and projects - integrating strategy, portfolio, program, project and performance management - from management thought leaders and knowledgeable senior practitioners.
Presentations on the following topics are sought:

• Advanced PMO Tools and Techniques

• Leading and Managing Organizational Change

CBP Benchmarking Forum: IT Project Management, Sept. 17-19, Bellagio Las Vegas This CBP Benchmarking Forum will provide senior IT project practitioners with a participative learning environment to exchange key success factors and core best practices, brainstorm new approaches to overcome the challenges of managing effectively in a project environment, and build a network for ongoing discussion and future problem-solving. The forum involves a high degree of attendee participation. Participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback to case presenters, participate in breakout group discussions, and give reports back to the group at-large.

Presentations on the following topics are sought:

  • Agile Project Management
  • Measuring IT Performance
  • IT Process Management (ITIL, CMMI, PMBOK)
  • Enterprise Risk Management
  • Integrating Asset, Project, and Portfolio Management

CBP Benchmarking Forum: Government Project Management, Nov. 7-9, Caribe Royale, Orlando This CBP Benchmarking Forum will provide senior government project practitioners with a participative learning environment to exchange key success factors and core best practices, brainstorm new approaches to overcome the challenges of managing effectively in a project environment, and build a network for ongoing discussion and future problem- solving. The forum involves a high degree of attendee participation. Call for Contributors University of Dallas & True Solutions
to Sponsor Project Management Lunch Series

The University of Dallas and True Solutions, Inc. have announced a new program to foster communication and interchange in project management in North Texas. The two organizations have teamed up to produce the “Project Management Lunch Series”, a series of lunchtime project management presentations and seminars.  The first event was held on January 26, 2007. 

The lunchtime presentations are held at the University of Dallas’ Center for Professional Development, 2301 Ohio Drive in Plano, Texas.  They are intended for project managers who are actively performing project management in some capacity, students in professional development programs and other individuals who are interested in learning about project management.  Project Management Professionals (PMP’s) who want to interact with their peers, share ideas, or learn new information about specialized areas of project management are also welcome to attend and encouraged to participate as contributors.

Future events in The Project Management Lunch Series are scheduled for:

  • March 30, 2007
  • May 18, 2007
  • July 20, 2007
  • September 14, 2007
  • November 9, 2007

UD/TSI is seeking qualified contributors for this event. Each contributor must be a PMP certified Project Manager or a PGmP certified Program Manager. Each presentation should be planned for one hour and should be on a current, important or unique project management subject. Specialized project management subjects are acceptable and encouraged.

What is in it for the Contributors? Contributors can earn valuable Professional Development Units for creating and presenting a formal presentation on project management. And, each contributor also gets the opportunity to talk about their views or specialties in project management and the opportunity to interact with their peers.

How to submit your Proposal to be a Contributor: Only a select few individuals will be chosen to contribute to the UD/TSI Project Management Lunch Series. We encourage each potential contributor to provide the best description available of their proposed presentation.
