Announcement and Call for Papers asapm 2007 Congress
The American Society for the Advancement of Project Management (asapm), together with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) and several other universities, has announced its first Virtual Congress on Managing Virtual Team Projects and Processes. The aim of the congress is to use the latest virtual meeting technologies to present and discuss concurrent distributed meetings. This will allow academics and professionals to discuss issues and best practices related to virtual teams and their processes. Participants are expected to be universities and enterprises capable of supporting full motion video, and individuals at work stations with high speed connections. Researchers and practitioners in the area of virtual teams or virtual projects are invited to submit papers on topics including, but not limited to:
Submission of a paper for this conference will involve two steps: 1) Preparation and submission of a paper; and 2) Preparation and submission of a short video clip (5 minutes or so) illustrating the speaker’s style. Because of the virtual nature of this Congress, it is especially important for speakers to be able to make a compelling presentation to remote attendees. SUBMISSIONS MAY BE ONE OF THREE TYPES
Papers should be submitted in MS Word or Adobe pdf format to 2007papers@asapm.org. APA format is preferred (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/). Video clips may be submitted in the same fashion or by emailing a link. Any common format for the video is acceptable and judgment is made on the presentation style, not on technical prowess. The video may be on any subject and must demonstrate presentation capability. All submissions must represent original work that has not been published in a journal or conference proceedings. If the work has been presented at another conference or is under consideration for publication elsewhere, the authors must disclose this fact. Authors will retain full copyright ownership but will be requested to authorize asapm to publish the paper on the asapm web site. Permission to publish is not a condition of paper acceptance. Registration by one or more of the authors of an accepted paper will be required. All accepted papers will be presented in 20 minute sessions (including time for questions) at a Virtual Congress. Presenters will be giving their papers from one of several remote sites, including University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Other remote sites include Northern Kentucky University; Anchorage, Alaska; Boston, Massachusetts; Southern California; and Cork, Ireland. Audiences may view the presentations from a remote site, or from their PCs. Specific locations will be announced as they are added on the asapm website (www.asapm.org/mvt). IMPORTANT DATES

Call for Plan to Learn Book Corporate e-Learning Building on the success of the first two volumes of the “Plan to learn” series, new case studies are being sought for publication in a third volume focusing on corporate e-Learning projects. “Planning to learn: case studies in e-Learning” is a series of edited books that presents and critically examines various e-Learning projects in case study format.
Started in 2004, the “Plan to Learn” series has published two books, one focusing on Canadian perspectives and the other providing an international collection of e-Learning project management case studies. Both provide in-depth case studies on e-Learning projects in higher education, government and not-for-profit organizations. Requests for each book number in the thousands. Both volumes are published by the Canadian e-Learning Enterprise Alliance and were edited by Beverly L. Pasian and Gary A. Woodill. Case studies serve basic but extremely useful functions: they demonstrate examples, provide analysis and encourage discussion. This book series is no different…except that it will also serve as the foundation for documenting interesting project management initiatives in the e-Learning community. The objectives for publishing the third book are:
Managing an e-Learning project or program requires three areas of skills and/or knowledge: instructional design, information technology and organizational operations. This book is targeted at everyone who is tasked with the responsibility of managing an e-Learning project but lacking in one or more of these areas. Specifically, in the academic (higher education) community, such key players as instructional designers, educational technologists, subject-matter experts, the VP-Academic, Chief Information Officer and/or the managers of academic support units would be interested. Interested contributors are invited to submit on or before January 15, 2007, a chapter proposal that meets the following criteria:
Please note:
Inquiries and submissions can be forwarded electronically or by mail to: Ms. Pasian is a senior project manager, consultant and doctoral student based in Toronto, Ontario. Since 1994, her focus has been on using the Internet for educational goals and, more recently on project management, both as a discipline and a way to improve the management of e-Learning projects. Beverly has an M.A. from the Open University (UK) in Online Distance Education, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in project management from the University of Technology, Sydney. Professionally, she has had worked on various local and national projects for departments of the federal government, colleges and universities and various private sector firms. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association for Distance Education (CADE) and is currently trying to establish a Canadian chapter of the International Project Management Association.
