Project and Programme Management
In Obama’s Inaugural Speech

By Getachew Teklemariam Alemu

It was history being made in front of our eyes when Barak Obama sworn in to be the 44th president of the United Sates of America. It is such a frightening time in America, and all over the world, that the global financial system that has been far from being stringently regulated gradually starts to collapse. The growing mountains of sub-prime loans, the declining investor confidence, the inevitable contraction of company size (and the associated skyrocketing layoff rate), the declining commodity prices, and so on have made Obama’s presidency such a critical happening.

For he knows that time is ticking on us all; he is trying to extend the bailout plan that was approved under president Bush, aside sketching his own stimulation plan. As can be depicted from recent media reports, most of the money under the bailout plan will go to the public sector Infrastructure Projects (some may be under Public Private Partnership (PPP) frameworks). Generally, it seems that it is time for project and programme management to get a hit in USA, and all over the world. What could project mangers learn from Obama’s inaugural speech anyway? Let me draw some points that I found interesting.
