Report on Project and Project Management in Nigeria

Introduction

Probably the most important development that has taken place this year in project management in the power industry, if not in many other industries, was the launching of the Road Map for the power industry on August 26 by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. This is the focus of this report because it is an event that has the potential to transform the national electricity supply and permanently resolve most of the ills that have crippled the development of the industry over many years.

The Launching of the Power Industry Road Map

Objective

To reform the power sector by means of a program that comprises every aspect of the industry in order to achieve sustainable, stable and adequate electricity supply in the country.

Detailed Plan of the Program

The implementation of the Road Map should lead to the effective privatisation of the industry and the almost full implementation of the Electric Power Sector Reforms (EPSR) Act of 2005. The Act entailed the planned privatisation of the present company, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), to 18 successor companies. These should comprise six electricity generation companies, one electric transmission company and eleven distribution companies. With over 25 years of experience in industrial operations and PM, he has been a registered engineer in Nigeria since 1983.
