PMI Global Congress APAC Wraps Up

More than 700 participants and 14 exhibitors descended on Melbourne’s Conference and Exhibition Centre for the 2010 PMI Global Congress APAC on 22-24 February. With 40 formal papers, eight half-day workshops, two networking functions and a range of other events, the 2010 event exceeded expectations. Particularly noteworthy was the excellent support provided by the PMI Melbourne Chapter volunteers, whose broad smiles were as distinctive as their green shirts.

The broad range of topics covered program and portfolio management, case studies and a high emphasis on various aspects of communications and interpersonal skills. The workshops attracted particular attention, with Tania Horozides (“The Power of Influence”), Peter Sullivan (“Building Productive Teams”), Dominic Siow (“Motivating Teams and Individuals”) and Derek Stockley (“Facilitating Meetings that Save Time”) providing excellent value for money for those that could get in to see their sessions.

Victor Anyosa PMP from Peru was one of the surprise hits of the Congress, and obliged with an encore presentation of his paper, “Linking Portfolio, Programme and Projects to Business Strategy: A Way to Gaining Competitive Advantage in this Turbulent Time”. Another encore was presented by PM Forum correspondent Jürgen Oschadleus, whose initial presentation, “Tanks, Snipers & Grenades – Discover Techniques for Dealing with Annoying Communicators” had standing room only…

He is the Course Coordinator and Facilitator for Project Management at the University of New South Wales, and presents graduate level project management courses for the University of Sydney. Jürgen is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), is DiSC- and SDI-accredited, and an Advanced Toastmaster (Gold). He holds an Education Diploma, a Masters degree in History and an MBA in International Project Management and Organisational Development, and a Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment.
