ProMAC Symposium 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand concludes with resounding success

ProMAC Symposium 2009, sponsored by Society of Project Management Japan, was held at Twin Towers Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand during three days of stimulating insights and extensive sharing from October 28th through 30th. It was attended by more than 100 project management thinkers and leaders, project managers, researchers, consultants, senior corporate executives, practitioners, academicians, trainers, enthusiasts, and students from 11 countries namely, Singapore, Australia, India, Malaysia, Germany, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Iran, Thailand, and Japan. It was a gathering to contribute and witness the importance of project management discipline in every aspect of our social and professional lives.

It was the first Symposium on Project Management, organized with the objective of promoting "Project Management" in Asia and was supported by the ProMAC International Project Management Conference which hosts an international conference every 2 years again promoted through The Society of Project Management (Japan).

From Nepal we had 3 representatives: Mr. Ram Krishna Nirala, Chairperson of Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programs (UCEP), Nepal; Mr. Keshav Suwal, Training Officer, Sano Thimi Technical School; and Suraj Dahal, General Secretary of Project Management Association Nepal (PMAN) who also served as the Co-Chair of the International Advisory Board, presented a paper entitled “Prospects of Project Management Profession in Nepal’ and Chaired a session.

Suraj Dahal is a visiting faculty of project management at National College and a MPhil student at Kathmandu University School of Management. He completed his BSEE in 1997 and MBA in 1999 from the University of South Alabama (USA). Suraj has served in executive positions at prominent non profit organizations in Nepal and has implemented projects with the World Bank, Department for International Development / Enabling State Program, European Commission, Save the Children, and other international organizations. A graduate of the Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University (USA), he is also a trainer and consultant for development projects. He is currently Executive Chairman of Kathmandu Academy that offers qualifications of Cambridge University International Examinations - A Level. Mr. Dahal is an active advocate of the project management profession and is the founding member and General Secretary of the Project Management Association of Nepal (PMAN).
