REGIONAL REPORT:

Project Management Update from North Texas

Washington, USA

By Tom Sheives, PhD

International Correspondent for PMForum & PM World Today

Arlington//Ft. Worth, Texas
USA

PM Profession News

The Fort Worth PMI chapter hosted Ray Briggs from BAE at their Chapter Dinner Meeting on August 20. Ray spoke on the $229 Billion F-35 Striker program. Ray did a great job and was clearly passionate about his 41 years in the defense business working for both government and private industry. He currently serves as the Director of the F-35 Programs for the U.S. part of BAE systems and has managed a team of 100-250 UK and US engineers since 2001. His F-35 team works on many different integrated project teams (IPTs) and on several different F-35 contracts related to the F-35 design, development and support efforts.

What an amazing aircraft he described and what an unbelievable challenge. As a small note according to a report each aircraft, according to the National Defense Industry Association, might cost between the $50-100 million as reported by the Government Accountability Office, depending on quantity. No small chunk of change!
