![]() Primavera’s Strategy in Latin America - An Interview with Mr. Gray Childs
Primavera Sales Manager for Latin America
During the week of September 6, Mr. Gray Childs, Primavera Sales Manager for Latin America, visited Argentina in support of NETCDS, a new Primavera Authorized Representative (PAR) in the country. During his visit, Mr. Childs offered the following interview to PMWT: PMWT: What is Primavera’s vision for the Latin American market? Gray Childs: Latin America is the newest market for our products. Although we are the leading provider of PPM software in most key markets, our presence in Latin America is still very limited. Additional representation in the region will help us better compete in Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Chile. We are currently looking for enthusiastic representatives who have the means and intention to grow the market even more. Argentina has shown consistent economic growth of 5-6% annually, and it appears that the country has also taken resources aside for economic sustainability. Therefore, we expect political changes here to have a positive impact on the economy. Argentina is one of only two countries to pay back its IMF loans ahead of schedule and this is an important issue, because it shows economic discipline and improvement. Argentina is also the second largest economy in the region after Brazil. And we also recognize continuous growth in Buenos Aires as well as the rest of the country. We intend to help our new partners in whatever way necessary to grow their business and increase our market share here. PMWT: Talking about partners, what is Primavera’s actual strategy for representation? Childs: As the new Sales Manager in Latin America, my strategy is to take a long-term approach when it comes to our representation in each country. We are willing to invest our time, resources, and enterprise project management expertise in developing our representatives. We want them to be committed to growing the market for Primavera software. We will support them by sponsoring seminars and other marketing activities, as well as training their employees to become skilled at enterprise selling. We are willing to do what it takes to help them open the market. Part of this strategy involves finding competitive partners who buy into our strategy. This point is very critical. In turn, we need representatives to be aggressive in their approach to expanding the market. Read complete report in English | Spanish

Cost Engineering – awareness is slowly By Raju Rao
Project management professionals will all agree that cost is an important aspect to be considered in managing projects. However, in practice it is given the least priority when considering the triple constraints. This is not to suggest that projects in India (like elsewhere in the world) do not suffer from cost over runs. This issue is rampant and could assume alarming proportions given that huge investments are being planned in the coming years Thankfully, the government is becoming active here by initiating measures to find solutions to issues of over budget projects. In India professional bodies like AACE and the practice of cost engineering are slowly finding acceptance in industries. Recently, as Chair of the South India Section of AACE International ( www.aacei.org), I had an opportunity to host an awareness seminar at Chennai on 25th Oct 2007.

PMI Romanian Chapter Insight: 2nd Chapter's Conference and 5th Anniversary of PMI in Romania By Florin Gheorghiu, PMP These are the days when a project management professional should feel the proud feeling of being part of a great group, showing a great respect and gratitude for those who dared to believe in ideas and concepts before others did, sharing the satisfaction of being in the same room with other people who embrace the very same passionate desire to accomplish something in the name of a common interest. An overwhelming sense of capturing everything in the morning ruled my thoughts when I first entered the Industry and Commerce Chamber of Romania Building on October the 17th when PMI Romanian Chapter organized its 5th anniversary from inception and 2nd Congress. About fifty invitees, either PMI members or non-affiliated practitioners, trainers, project management product developers have taken a seat within a stylish Hall located at the 4th floor in the Building where the Chapter started its two day session. The elite group of participants was accompanied by a generous display of sponsors and partners among which to name only part of it were Microsoft, TotalSoft and, a newcomer, Kepler Rominfo, companies well within the project management field as product developers or integrators. New York City has 145 studios and stages and 35 radio stations. More than 200 newspapers have offices here, and 350 consumer magazines are headquartered in the city. The city's professional services industry includes the headquarters of the 10 largest US-based consulting firms, 6 of the world's top 10 securities firms, 3 of the Big Five accounting firms' headquarters, and 219 international banks. But, the city is much more diverse. It is also home to 20,000 not-for-profit businesses of all types, has more than 10,000 manufacturing and industrial firms that employ over a quarter of a million people. The high-tech and new media is a $9.2 billion industry in New York City alone, and it continues to grow, with approximately 4,000 companies representing that sector. Read complete report in English
