On the August PMWT Editorial on Arrogance in Project Management
9 August 2010
Dear Mr. Pells:
I really enjoyed reading your editorial this month. And no, it did not come off arrogant at all. In fact, it was humble, reflective and very well thought through.
I’m a brand new project manager. I was promoted less than three months ago and have not even completed my first project. I’m hungry, reading everything I can get my hands on to supplement my on-the-job training.
This piece on arrogance is timeless & relevant, not only for the project management field but for life in general. The best line in the piece was ‘Arrogance is not conducive to knowledge accumulation.’ I copied that to my facebook status, credit to you. What a great quote!
After working for this company for almost four years in a completely different department, I was surprised to learn both how little and how much I could add to a conversation about planning a project. I have noted the dangers that arrogance can bring to this field as you laid them out. Some of them are obvious; others had not even crossed my mind. I intend to take heed of all of the dangers.
I have been reminded, yet again, not to allow arrogance to creep in while I’m enjoying this new profession.
Thank you!
