FEATURED PAPER

Application of Data mining techniques in Agile Project Management

- Emerging trend in Project Management

By Pavan Kumar Gorakavi

Abstract

Project management is an artistic skill of getting things done using qualitative and quantitative methodologies. There are many quantitative approaches currently used in project management in order to access project, project status and to gain knowledge from historical data. Data mining is the process of extracting patterns from data. Data mining, or knowledge discovery, is the computer-assisted process of digging through and analyzing enormous sets of data and then extracting the meaning of the data.

This paper deals with qualitative implementation of Data mining techniques in project management to yield effective results. This paper primarily discuss about Data mining classification technique – Decision Tree, C4.5 algorithms which can be used to build a knowledge center for an Agile project based on historical statistics. This data mining application can be used in project planning, task estimations, and risk analysis.

This paper illustrates the use of data mining techniques in project planning and risk evaluations. I had developed an open source research application [Intelligent scrum planner http://spat.tigris.org ] to demonstrate the impact of data mining in Project Management. You can download this open source software from http://spat.tigris.org...
