Tradeshow Added to November
Project Management Symposium in Ottawa

Suppliers of project management products and services are invited to exhibit at the 7th Annual PMI OVOC Symposium to be held November 6th, 7th & 8th, 2007 at the Hampton Inn, Ottawa. The two themes for this years symposium are: Audit & Accountability and Project Management Best Practices.

This year the chapter has introduced a 2-day tradeshow to complement symposium speakers and seminars. The tradeshow will run during the day on November 6th & 7th and is complimentary to participants and the public.

This Symposium this year is anticipated to draw over 1000 participants, so this is being presented to vendors as an excellent opportunity to display to an interested and motivated audience! Exhibition space has been priced significantly less than with similar tradeshows, with booths starting at just $300.

In addition to the tradeshow, vendors will have the opportunity to demonstrate their products and services at a Vendor Presentation area during the 2-day tradeshow. Times and dates will be on a first-come, first-served basis only and will run for 30-minutes each. Only 1 timeslot will be available per tradeshow participant.

The Ottawa Valley Outaouais Chapter (OVOC) is a chartered Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI). Founded in 1984 and chartered by PMI in 1985, the PMI OVOC chapter has enjoyed a substantial growth, led by extremely competent and committed volunteers. At the end of September 2005 membership was 1608, with 1034 members having obtained their PMP Certification. The PMI OVOC Chapter is a non-profit, professional organization dedicated to promoting the knowledge and professional application of project management to organizations and individuals in the Ottawa Valley/Outaouais region.

Keynote Speakers Announced for 15th
Global Project Management Symposium in New Delhi

Keynote speakers have been announced for the upcoming 15th Global Project Management Symposium in New Delhi, India. Organized and sponsored by Project Management Associates (PMA) and the Center for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM), the conference will have the theme “Business by Projects.” The conference, expected to be the biggest project management event in India this year, will be held during 12-14 November 2007 at the Hotel Ashok in New Delhi. This will be the 15th annual global project management symposium sponsored by PMA since its founding in 1993.

 

The inaugural address on November 12 will be provided by Mr. Shri G. K. Vasan, Minister of State Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India. From 2001 onwards he was President, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) and in April 2002 elected to Rajya Sabha. From an agricultural background, Mr. Vasan has a B.A. (Corporate Secretaryship) from The New College, Madras University, Chennai, India. The Ministry of State Statistics and Programme Implementation is responsible for overseeing major infrastructure programs and projects throughout the country.

The valedictory address on November 14 will feature Shri Sontosh Mohan Dev, Honorable Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India. Minister Dev has an extensive background and positions in Indian government and Society, including Chairman, Municipal Board, Silchar, Assam; , Chairman, Committee on Government Assurances; Union Minister of State, Tourism and Communications; Union Minister of State, Defence; Union Minister of State, Home Affairs; Chairman, Public Accounts Committee; Union Minister of State, Steel; and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises (since May 2004). He has served in Congress for many years and is very well known throughout the country as industrial and social leader.

Other globally recognized project management leaders who will be appearing in New Delhi include:

 

Adesh Jain, current Chair of the International Project Management Association (IPMA), on “Project Thinking – changing the way projects are managed”. Mr. Jain is also Managing Director of the Centre for Excellence in Project Management Ltd. (India), President of PM Guru, Inc. (USA), and Honorary President of Project Management Associates (PMA - India). Adesh’s career includes 40 years of project management-oriented work, including projects and positions in US and Indian industry. He has been conferred with 7 major awards in India, including a Fellowship and the 'Gem of India' award. Adesh served as President of PMA from 1992-1999, Vice President of IPMA from 1999 – 2004, and IPMA President during 2005. One of the most widely recognized leaders in the field of project management, Adesh Jain has traveled extensively, spoken at numerous PM conferences and events, and has trained over 50,000 persons worldwide.

Klaus Pannenbacker, former Chair of IPMA, who will speak on “IPMA 4 Level Certification – the Key to PM Profession”. Klaus Pannenbacker is former president and chair of the German Project Management Association, and of IPMA. Recently retired after nearly 45 years of professional work, Mr. Pannenbacker is one of the most well known project management experts and leaders in the world, and especially in Europe. He was involved in the development of IPMA’s International Competence Baseline and four level PM certification program. He has spoken widely throughout the world on this topic.

 

Hiroshi (Hiro) Tanaka, PhD (Hon), Chair of the Project Management Association of Japan (PMAJ), who will speak on “P2M – Strategic View of Project Management”. Hiroshi Tanaka has over 40 years of experience in the global engineering and construction industry and is one of the foremost leaders in the world of professional project management. He is currently Deputy General Manager with JGC Corporation, one of Japan’s largest engineering and construction companies engaged in large off-shore international projects. He was General Manager of JGC’s Project Services Division and a board member of JGC Project Services Company until 2002. He is now Deputy General Manager, Project Management Advocate, of JGC’s Strategic Planning and Government Relations Division. Hiro is also the National President of PMAJ, the Japanese national PM association – and the founder and former National President of Japan Project Management Forum, known as JPMF. Dr. Tanaka is also a Fellow and global project management delegate of the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA), the Japanese project industry initiative with 220 first-line Japanese corporations. Dr. Tanaka is widely considered the leading authority on project management in Japan. He has presented keynote, papers and speeches at more than 60 international PM conferences or seminars in 20 countries since 1982. Hiro was won several major international awards over the years, including the Global Fellow award from PMA (India) in 2000 and a PM GURU – Global Project Management Leadership Award presented by the State of India in November 2005.

Saudi CIO Summit 2007 to focus on IT Project Management

Over 400 CIO’s, IT managers and ICT project managers are expected to participate in a Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 20-21, 2007 at King Faisal Conference Hall, Intercontinental Hotel. The event is expected to be the largest gathering of CIO’s and IT managers in the Middle East.

The main theme of this year event is IT Project Management. The two-day event will include experts and distinguished speakers from leading industry, consulting firms and government bodies, including speakers from: Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (MCIT), Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA), Saudi Aramco, SABIC, WIPRO, Microsoft, Gartner, Devoteam, King Fahd Military Medical Complex Dhahran (KFMMC) and King Saud University. The main topics to be covered are: IT Project Management approaches, methodologies, tools and techniques. Case studies and success stories will also be presented.

According to Mohammed AlKharashi, Chairman of the Summit and Vice Chairman - Board of Directors of the Saudi Computer Society said: "The Saudi CIO Summit has successfully established itself as the most important IT event in the region. Next PMUni workshop on the 26th – 27th November 2007,
Esbjerg (Denmark)

Since July 2007 the new international network – PMUni, an international network for professional education and research in process and project management is fully operating.

A first PMUni Workshop was successfully organised in the pre-program of the happy projects’07 conference “PROJECTS & TRANSFORMATION” on the 4th of October 2007 in Bucharest, Romania. 12 participants representing nine different universities and one project-oriented company met in Bucharest to discuss and exchange interests in cooperating in the PMUni network.

Beside the introduction of the network itself, presentations about the project management (PM) education programmes and research at the FH des bfi Wien, the National School for Political and Administrative Studies and the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and project orientation [Romania] were given. The research project pm education mature was also presented to the workshop participants.

The next PMUni Workshop will take place during the 26th-27th November 2007 at the University of Southern Denmark, Denmark.

Representatives from interested companies or universities are welcome to participate in this workshop to obtain more information about the network, to meet PMUni partners and for networking.

Date and Place for the PMI Latin American
Global Congress 2008 Announced

The Project Management Institute (PMI®) has announced that the Latin American Global Congress 2008 will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil in August 2008. Traditionally, this congress was held every year on the month of November. This change of dates leads to a change on dates for presentation proposals.

Four PMI Global Congresses are held each year, in the Asia Pacific region, Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) region, in North America and in Latin America. International Project & Program Management Symposium
to be held in Tokyo, Japan in March 2008

Project Management Association of Japan (PMAJ) has announced the “International Project & Program Management Symposium Tokyo 2008 – in pursuit of organizational project management value” – to be held in Tokyo, Japan in March 2008.

This international project management symposium will be the second to be hosted by PMAJ following the International Project Management Congress Tokyo 2001 (IPMC 2001) in 2001, and will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Japan’s foundation of the professional project management society. The symposium will focus on the following topics, among others:

  • New domains of project management, including program management and portfolio management
  • Organizational pursuit of project management value and governance
  • Major project cases
  • Building the future of project management

The symposium will challenge to prove “project management as new economic infrastructure and a driver for social development and transformation”. The symposium is being organized in collaboration with leaders of the global project management community and will be supported by major Japanese corporations and agencies promoting project management.

 

The symposium will be conducted on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th March 2008 at Tower Hall, Funabori, Tokyo, Japan. Approximately 400 delegates are expected from 20 or more countries. The sponsoring organization is PMAJ, with full support expected from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and The Engineering Advancement Association of Japan, plus five to 10 other public organizations. The Symposium Project Director is Dr. Hiroshi Tanaka, President, PMAJ; the symposium project manager is Mr. Tetsuhiro Yamane, Vice President, PMAJ.

PMAJ is the National Project Management Association of Japan, born in 2005 thorough the integration of two project management bodies, Japan Project Management Forum (JPMF – pioneer of Japan’s project management society) and Project Management Professionals Certification Center (PMCC). PMAJ has 3,000 individual and 110 corporate members from all branches of the Japanese industry and governmental agencies. PMAJ offers its own standard “The Guidebook of Project and Program Management for Enterprise Innovation – P2M” and P2M based certification system.
