With former US President Bill Clinton, PMI to Step onto the World Stage at Global Congress in October

By David L. Pells

Introduction

In April 2010, the Project Management Institute (PMI®) announced that former US President Bill Clinton will be the keynote speaker for the PMI Global Congress 2010 – North America in October.  That big conference, PMI’s largest worldwide, will be held in Washington, DC during 9-13 October 2010.

While PMI has had some big names and well known speakers at events in the past, this will be the first time that a former U.S. president will appear as guest speaker.  With this year’s event, featuring former U.S. president Bill Clinton, PMI is finally reaching the level where professional project management belongs.  This is a very significant and exciting development. With this editorial I will try to put this development into perspective, pointing out just how significant this could be and what it might mean to PMI and the Project Management Profession.  Perhaps I exaggerate the importance of Bill Clinton speaking at one event.  Perhaps a former US president does not carry the weight or importance of current leaders.  But Bill Clinton deserves special attention, as does his recent philanthropic work to help solve global problems.  His speaking at the PMI congress is a very big deal, in my opinion.
