2nd Call for Papers for 3rd Annual UT Dallas Project Management Symposium in Texas

Project management experts, leaders and professionals are invited to submit an abstract for a paper and presentation at the 3rd UT Dallas Project Management Symposium, to be held August 13-14, 2009 at the University of Texas at Dallas, in the School of Management, Richardson Texas. The conference is being sponsored by the Graduate Program in Project Management at the University of Texas at Dallas, in cooperation with PMForum and the PMI Dallas Chapter. The 2-day Project Management Symposium will focus on topics important to organizations, industries and the economy of North Texas.

Deadlines

  • Abstracts with Bio and Photo are due February 6, 2009

  • Papers will be selected by March 16, 2009

Those interested in presenting a paper at the 3rd Annual UT Dallas PM Symposium next August should e-mail abstract, bio and photo to pmsymposium@utdallas.edu. Based on the success of the 2nd UTD Project Management Symposium in August 2008, which featured over 40 speakers and 225 attendees, more paper proposals are expected than speaking opportunities, so competitive topics and abstracts should be submitted.

Paper abstracts should be on one of the following proposed track topics:

  • Program & Portfolio Project Management

  • New Ideas & Emerging Trends in PM

  • Project Mgmt for New Product Development

  • Engineering Project Management

  • Global Program & Project Management

  • Management of Complex Programs & Projects

  • Medical & Healthcare Project Management

  • Construction & Property Development PM

  • Project Management in Local Government

  • Project Mgmt for Energy, Oil & Gas Projects

  • Program & Project Mgmt Tools& Techniques

  • Telecom & Technology Project Mgmt

  • Transportation Infrastructure Project Mgmt

Final tracks will be based on the number and topics of abstracts submitted.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

  • Papers should not have been previously published.

  • Papers and presentations should be free of commercial sales content.

  • Papers and presentations should focus on the subject of the title, and provide new contributions to the topic.

  • The length of the abstract should be between 150 and 250 words.

  • Abstracts should be typed in 12pt Times New Roman font in the MS Office Word format, 2003 or 2007 versions.

  • Each abstract must have a lead author who will serve as the primary contact for all correspondence.

  • Length of the final paper should be 1000 to 2000 words in length.

The 2 Day Project Management Symposium will include an Opening Ceremony with Keynote Speakers, professional presentations and discussions on a variety of topics, panel discussions, lunches and coffee breaks, vendors’ exhibition, a Monday evening networking reception, and a closing keynote address.

The Symposium will be held on the UT Dallas Campus, in the School of Management, a new facility with state of the art audio visual and multi-media technologies in each room. The Vendor Exhibition area will include tables and display space for sponsors and exhibitors in the main halls of the School of Management. Symposium participants will have maximize exposure to the exhibitors and sponsors between sessions and during lunches and coffee breaks. The symposium will be sponsored by the Graduate Program in Project Management at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas), in cooperation with the Dallas Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) and PMForum, Inc. Both the PMI Dallas Chapter and UT Dallas are registered education providers with PMI, so attendees can easily receive Professional Development Units (PDUs) for PMP recertification.

The Project Management Program at UT Dallas provides application-oriented education for professionals with significant project, program or general management responsibilities. Established in the Executive Education Center in UTD’s School of Management, students have the option of earning a Certificate in Project Management, a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in project management, or a Master of Business Administration degree with project management emphasis.

Call for Papers for 23rd IPMA World Congress on Project Management in Finland

A Call for Papers has been announced for the 23rd IPMA World Congress in Helsinki, Finland to be held during June 15-17, 2009. The official announcement was made at the 22nd IPMA World Congress in Rome, Italy on 11 November 2008. Information for potential authors, researchers and practicing professionals can be found on the Helsinki congress website at http://www.refresh09.com/.

According to Jyry Louhisto, General Manager of Project Management Association Finland (PMAF) and Director for the 2009 congress, "We will have two categories of presentations at the 23rd IPMA World Congress next year. First, we will have the traditional scientific research papers presented by academic leaders and project management researchers around the world. But we will also be seeking papers and presentations on practice based examples of project and program management. This will be different, and we hope it will enrich the congress."

The theme for the 23rd IPMA World Congress on Project Management in Helsinki next year will be "Refresh Yourself – Project World 2.0." The event will be aimed at regenerating one’s professional career, organization and personal development.

Participants wishing to present a contribution are invited to submit an abstract, relating to the theme "Human side of projects in modern business". The abstract should be typewritten in English (preferably in MS Word or PDF format), not exceeding 500 words, on one A4 size page. The abstract should be e-mailed to the Conference Scientific Secretariat by December 31, 2008 kalle.kahkonen@vtt.fi, or use the Abstract submission option on the congress website. The abstracts will be reviewed by scientists selected on a world-wide basis, based on the topic. Full papers will be refereed and accepted by the same referees.
