The authors showcased below have provided articles, case studies, professional papers, stories or viewpoints published in PM World Today during the last year.  Some are or have been leaders in the PM profession.  Many are true project management experts; most are highly experienced in selected areas of project management.  We consider them all to be highly professional, and we thank them for their contributions to the world of PM.

Mike Nichols

Mike Nichols is Chairman of the Association for Project Management (APM) in the UK, Board Member of the Major Projects Association and Member of the Standards Policy and Strategy Committee of the British Standards Institute.  His ‘day job’ is Chairman & Chief Executive of the Nichols Group, a firm which specialises in advising on and managing major capital projects and business change initiatives. Mike has extensive experience of project and programme management in the transport, telecommunications, automotive and power industries.  In particular, he directed a management contract for the first phase of the Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway and project managed the initial phase of the Docklands Light Railway in London, both completed on time and within budget.  Last year Mike completed a strategic review of the Highways Agency’s £12 billion Major Roads Programme for the Secretary of State for Transport in the UK. Prior to forming the Nichols group in 1975, he had a number of senior management jobs, including Executive Director of British Leyland and General Manager with British Oxygen Company. He has also led developments of new approaches in project, programme and risk management.  Mike has a degree in Economics, is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

She has launched and/or managed 3 Project Management Offices, developed and deployed models for organizational and client delivery maturity, held senior level positions for Fortune 500 companies and is currently a principal at Nicholas Consulting in Dallas, Texas. Mei-min Peng

Mei-min Peng is a founding partner of Joyto Inc., a venture capital firm focuses on investments in digital media and supply chain services as well as small business companies initiatives on the Internet.  She helps establish business development capabilities through strong, strategic relationships across the supply value chain, particularly in US and China. Specifically, she is responsible for leading capital on investment trends and opportunities for innovation and growth. She has six years software project experiences in ATX Group, Inc. She is also a freelance photographer. Her photo works have been published among newspaper and magazines. Most recently, her work is used in December 2007, Prestige magazine, Singapore.  She was on North Texas Asian Photography Association board of directors. She holds an MBA from University of Dallas and a certification from project management EMBA program at University of Texas at Dallas.

Richard Pharro

Richard Pharro is Managing Director of the APM Group Limited, London, UK. In 1995 Richard conceived the idea of Accreditation and Certification associated with OGC’s PRINCE2™. Since then PRINCE2 has become established as a project management method used throughout the world. APMG’s partnership with OGC has since expanded to include MSP, M_o_R® and ITIL® accreditation and qualifications. APMG is now a global business providing accreditation and certification services via an international network of Accredited Consultancy and Training Organisations. Richard Pharro is a chartered Civil Engineer who has worked on projects in the Middle East and the UK, including several years with the London Docklands Development Corporation on the regeneration of East London. He established The APM Group Limited in partnership with the Association of Project Management (APM) in 1993. The Association disposed of their stake in The APM Group in April 2000. As the Vice Chairman of APM, Richard developed the Association’s Certification Programme for experienced Project Managers and led the first International Certification Committee on behalf of the International Project Management Association (IPMA). He is a non executive Director of the Best Practice Users Group in the UK and a frequent speaker at conferences. A Matt Piazza, MBA, PMP, is an independent consultant with over 20 years of project management experience since earning his BS degree at Texas A&M University (TAMU) and his MBA degree at the Southern Methodist University (SMU) in the USA. His project management experience comes from major multi-year projects in the US Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE) and high technology industries. Matt is past president of the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the DFW Chapter of the Microsoft Project Association (MPA). Roy Pool

Roy Pool, a Sr. Consultant for PMSolutions, has 25 years PM experience, the last 9 heading PMO efforts at several companies.  Those companies have enjoyed significant improvements in Portfolio Mgmt and increased Project Success Rates.  Lucent Technologies Power Division saw the overall project success rate go from 33% to 87% and the New York State Tax PMO won the 2005 Governor’s Award for Portfolio Collaboration between Business and IT.  In previous assignments, Roy maintained a very high individual project success rate and won a prestigious award for project leadership while leading a project team on a DoD project.  Mr. Pool was a presenter at the 2001 PMI International Symposium, the 2006 PMI Latin America Global Congress and the Center for Business Practices 2007 PM Summit.  His talk, “Help, I Have a Multiple Project Traffic Jam?” won the Latin Congress “Best of Congress” and the associated paper was featured in the April 2007 issue of PM Network magazine.  While at Lucent, Roy was chosen to teach PM to project leaders in various Lucent locations throughout the world.  He has also been a PMBOK instructor for local PMI Chapters in Dallas and Upstate New York.  Roy received his PMP certification from PMI in 1993, and is certified as a Black Belt in Microsoft Project.

Viatcheslav V. Poznyakov, PhD, Dr.Sc., is professor of Project Management and Information Systems at the State Academy for Top Managers in Investment Area, Moscow, Russia. He holds a Doctor of Science from University of Dnepropetrovsk. Before joining the State Academy for Top managers in Investment Area he was the Head of Department for Computer-aided Management Systems at the Moscow Civil Engineering University. He has been a visiting professor at the University of London, UK and the Leipzig High Engineering School in Leipzig, Germany. He previously headed a project management training department for the World Bank in Moscow for the Russian construction industry.  He has experience with various Russian consulting companies, and the Ukrainian Academy of Science. He has practical experience in International development projects, construction, transport, and the space industry.  Professor Poznyakov has published a number of books and articles on information technology, systems development, project management, risk management, contracting, project preparation and evaluation, and management in general. Roberto Prieto

Robert Prieto is a Senior Vice President for Fluor, responsible for strategy in support of the firm’s Industrial & Infrastructure Group and its key clients.  He focuses on the development and delivery of large, complex projects worldwide. Prior to joining Fluor, Bob served as chairman of Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc.  He is a member of the executive committee of the National Center for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, a member of the board of directors of the Business Council on International Understanding, a member of the board of the Civil Engineering Forum for Innovation, and co-founder and member of the board of the Disaster Resource Network. He currently serves on the National Research Council’s committee framing the challenges on Critical Infrastructure Systems. Until 2006 he served as one of three U.S. presidential appointees to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and served as chairman of the Engineering and Construction Governors of The World Economic Forum and co-chair of the infrastructure task force formed after September 11th by the New York City Chamber of Commerce.  He is also a member of the board of trustees of Polytechnic University of New York.

Curt Raschke, PhD, PMP

Curt Raschke, Ph.D, PMP, has over 25 years experience in managing new product development projects for several high-technology companies in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. He is an adjunct instructor at the University of Texas at Dallas in the Project Management and Project Lifecycle Management Executive Education programs and has been an officer of PMI’s New Product Development Specific Interest Group for almost 10 years, including three years as SIG chair. He is a member of the Virtual Collaboration Research Group Advisory Board at the University of North Texas and has co-authored a chapter in a soon to be published book on “virtual” project team management. He has spoken at conferences on portfolio and pipeline management and on managing co-development projects and is also a member of the IEEE, Engineering Management Society and the Product Development Management Association. Jovica Riznic, PhD

Jovica Riznic earned his B.Sc., M.Sc, and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, and is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada.  He has more than twenty years experience in research and development, energy and thermal engineering and science, software development and project management.  Currently he serves on the Board of Directors of the PMI Ottawa Valley Outaouis Chapter as the director of the Outreach programs.  He is the lead organizer and founder of the Student Forum on Project Management which is in its fifth year as the annual event gathering academics and students from North America and Europe.  He teaches courses in the Project Management Certificate Program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, and has published 2 books and more than 100 papers/ articles.  Jovica also serves as a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Nuclear Governance, Ecology and Economy.   He is an active member in several other professional societies including Professional Engineers of Ontario, Canadian Nuclear Society, American Nuclear Society and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Recently, he received the College Award for 2003 from the Algonquin College in recognition for his contribution to the project management certificate program.

Alexandre Rodrigues, PhD PMP, is an International Correspondent for PMForum.org in Portugal. Ana Maria Rodriguez

Ana Maria Rodriguez, PMP is an International Correspondent for PMForum in Argentina. Ms. Rodriguez is also a Project Management Consultant to the Engineering and Construction Industry in Rosario, Argentina, and an adjunct professor of project management at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario. Colombian by birth, Ms. Rodriguez graduated with a Civil Engineering Degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota and from the University of Texas at Austin, USA with a Masters Degree in Construction Engineering and Project Management (MSE).  From 2003 to 2005, Ms Rodriguez implemented and ran the Rosario Habitat Program PM office, funded by the Inter American Development Bank (IADB). During the last few years Ana María has been in charge of the planning, monitoring and control for large turnaround projects in the Automobile, Petrochemical, Steel and Paper Industries in the Rosario region.
