AIPM issues Call for Abstracts for 2009 National Conference in Adelaide

The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), the Australian national project management society, has issued an open invitation for abstracts and proposals for academic papers, industry papers and workshops for the 2009 AIPM National Conference. The conference will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre in Adelaide, Australia during 11-14 October 2009.

The Conference will offer opportunities for project managers and those working in the field of project management to improve skills, share knowledge and network. The three day program will feature a variety of national and international speakers and a social program allowing delegates, sponsors and exhibitors the opportunity to mix in both a professional and social environment.

The Conference Theme this year is Modernisation in Project Management, with four sub themes of Flexibility, Risk, Integration and Sustainability. This year's theme seeks to bring out healthy skepticism from the modern project manager, and encourage practitioners and academics to put their own practices under the magnifying glass. The modern project manager should tell it as it is. Abstracts for presentations on the following themes are sought:

  • Flexibility - Flexibility in project management is not taught but today we are presented with considerable change in the economic environment that demands flexibility to adjust to the change. Is flexibility simply a manifestation of successful risk analysis, preventative actions, and contingency planning?

  • Risk - Risk analysis can help drive clarity and identify what may be accepted and transferred, and define the residual risk, but how is risk managed effectively through the life cycle of the project? Is it really done or just talked about at the start of a project? How is risk managed in different sectors, particularly where there is a high degree of technical risk?

  • Integration - How does the modern project manager integrate his or her project effectively? Is it merely a process, or is there something more? Can these qualities be quantified and amplified to effectively integrate very large projects or programs?

  • Sustainability - Are projects really going to be driven by sustainability, or is sustainability a new fashion accessory for the aspiring project manager? What constitutes sustainability? Can transparency, credibility and accountability ever be addressed?
Abstracts are due by 1 May 2009. Accepted papers will be due by 1 September. For more information, visit www.aipm2009.com.au.
